Set goals when dieting

Set goals when dieting

Setting goals and organizing what we do is very important when dieting. When you look at things objectively, you should notice that most of the things you have accomplished in life have been achieved because not only did you have a goal but you also had a clearly planned and well-thought-out process for achieving that goal. However, why is goal setting so important when it comes to dieting?

First, it is difficult to achieve a goal if you do not have a clearly defined goal. There are times in life when it is almost impossible to know whether or not you will succeed or fail because you are not completely sure of the desired outcome. Setting your diet goals before you begin eliminates this very possibility.

Second, setting diet goals gives you a measuring tool with which you can judge your desired process. This is important so that you know when your efforts are failing and when to go on schedule or ahead of schedule. In other words, you will know when to party and when to give yourself a quick kick in the back so you watch yourself.

Now that we know why we set our weight-loss goals, let's discuss how we should start setting those goals that are so important to the success of the diet. You want to set goals without them being impossible to achieve. If you set goals that are out of your reach, you'll find that frustration will be your diet partner until you get to the point where you give up together. To avoid this, you must make sure that your goals are possible and not impossible for you.

When it comes to losing weight, be specific when setting your goals. Instead of setting a total goal of 40 or 60 pounds, start with a specific goal like 10 pounds in one month. Then you can extend the goal to the next month until you reach the total goal of 40 or 60 pounds. Losing 10 pounds four times is much easier than losing 40 pounds in one go. It's a trick of the brain, but it works. Ten pounds looks simple and attainable. Forty pounds seems like an insurmountable obstacle.

Also if you want to hold yourself accountable but you shouldn't cancel the whole thing if you only lose 9 pounds instead of 10. Instead, find out where you dropped the ball against the last pound and set a 10- pound goal for next month.

You should also take great care that you are working with your personal goals and not the goals someone else is pushing for you. The truth is, if it were personal for you, it would be more rewarding than if you were doing this for someone else. If your heart isn't there, there are very few goals that will motivate you properly.

Finally, you must set up small (non-food) rewards for achieving your diet goals. Maybe your reward will be a new accessory for your new (or old new) wardrobe or a pedicure for your new look. Make your reward fun and pointless and teach yourself that achieving your goals can be achieved by something other than food. This is the key to a successful diet.
